As an Environmental Artist, my interests are in the importance of the role of the Arts, Poetry and the well -being of the Global Ocean and Planet.
I am a passionate Environmental Artist, and Poet based in Devon, UK
with a background in well-being, graduate in Environmental Art and Rural Crafts with Plymouth University.
With fine art tutoring sessions experience with Art tutor Lyn Marie Whiteman.
I have creatively and academically been exploring through health awareness, art and academic studies the importance of creating a healthier relationship with water within the body, and of this blue planet.
Since 2007 I have working on the development of my role as an Environmental Artist which involves raising the profile of the importance of Environmental Art exhibitions that can reach the public in this time of Ocean Acidification and Climate Change
I am a member of art dot earth, based in Dartington , Devon, which is a family of artists and organisations whose work focuses on contemporary art and ecology, the environment and the natural world.
In June 2014 I attended the United Kingdom Ocean Acidification conference at The Royal Society, London, which educated me with a summary of their 5 year Ocean Acidification research programme results and forecasts.
The circular artworks that I create contain revered water from various locations within the South West of England that express the beauty of this watery planet, invoking a feeling of flow, and healthy vibrancy. The art pieces convey the current interpretation of a healthy global ocean that we all need to ensure the future of life, as
Water is the essence of all life.
The Essence of Water – Oceans- Earth and Us exhibition, has the aim to inspire people to be the change they wish to see in the world, through the marriage of art works and science /information from Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Save Our Seas Foundation, and The Essence of Water –Oceans –Earth and Us booklet.
This Environmental Art exhibition also has the creative educating ability to inform individually and collectively how to improve the way we relate to water, that steers us, the Oceans and Planet towards a healthier future for generations to come.
As an Environmental Artist, studies in Environmental Art and Rural Crafts with Plymouth University 2006-2008, alongside a background in well being modalities, I wove together 3 important topics that have led to my artworks and to this exhibition.
I signed up to study a foundation Degree in Environmental Art with a quest of how could I share with the public/communities the relevance and importance of Environmental topics and issues, through the medium of art and science.
The topic of the Ocean became the leading topic in this quest, as both my Daughters and I love the Seas and Oceans. So when asking my Daughter the question what would she like our next home school project to be , she replied ' I would like to learn more about the Seas and Oceans' and there we have it, that was the catalyst for me, in educating ourselves in to a deeper understanding of how we are all connected through the element of water.
With my expanding awareness of issues and threats that are affecting the Oceans, I became informed by my partner of OCEAN ACIDIFICATION -.This topic became the leading issue out of many that I choose to take forward and develop in to an exhibition.
An exhibition that shows the beauty of the water, raises awareness on Ocean Acidification and gives information as to what we can individually and collectively do about it, to share with my local community and beyond.
I thank Lyn for the invitation and professional presence, as it was from that moment of creatively playing with inks and water that I began to feel something unblock within me. My creativity began from that day to flow freely.
The art works which express the delicate pristine beauty of water that I have gone on to create have led to the creation Art works that are in my exhibitions and are created for personal commissions upon request also.
The paintings have come from a mix of experiences, inspired by the metaphors of water , the immersing feeling in to the Emerald and Turquoise waters of Cornwall, that reflect the shimmering light of vibrant healthy water and Ocean.
All in relation to my love for the water and my sense of relationship with the Sea, around the Coast of Devon, the Atlantic, in St Ives, Porthcurno, Zennor, and other locations around the Coast of Cornwall , UK
