As a Mother, now a Grandmother and as an Environmental Artist, my deep interests
are in how within all the stresses that so many are living through in modern society, within our personal and global experiences can we make the creative changes that are required for a more harmonious and sustainable life for humanity, our global ocean and the earth.
In 2006 I signed up to a foundation degree in Environmental Art with an intention of studying more about the natural world, environmental topics and how
the medium of art can be shared with communities the relevance and importance of environmental topics and issues.
Through the medium of art and science we can all empower ourselves with conscious choices that support a healthier future for us, the global ocean and the earth we all call home.
Since 2007 I began to creatively work on the development of my role as an Environmental Artist which also involves raising the profile of the importance of Environmental Art that can reach people I feel on a deeper level.
Imagery alongside information, can be a whole brain experience, imagery that is water based and water having metaphorical connections with the heart, feels this exhibition has a visual depth to it. The importance of the role of the Arts, Poetry, Story and the well -being of the Global Ocean, Earth and Us.
The topic of the seas and oceans became the leading topic in our home, as both my Daughters and I love the Water, Seas and Oceans. So when asking my youngest the question what would she like our home school project to be, she replied ' I would like to learn more about the Seas and Oceans' and there we have it, that was the catalyst for me, together we began in discovering a deeper understanding of how we are all connected through the element of water.
Along the way I had fine art tutoring sessions with art tutor Lyn Marie Whiteman, which led to painting the Blue Jewel art work and other paintings expressing the beauty of water. The circular artworks that I create contain revered water from various locations within the South West of England that express the beauty of this watery planet, invoking a feeling of flow, and healthy vibrancy that we all need to ensure the future of life, as Water is the essence of all life.
I went on to creatively and academically marry my art and environmental art studies
Through the medium of art and science, we can all empower ourselves with education and conscious choices that support a healthier future for us all, the global ocean and the earth we all call home.
Inspiring us all in creating a healthier relationship with water within our own bodies and with the water of this blue planet.
This environmental art exhibition also has the creative educating ability to inform individually and collectively how to improve the way we relate to water, that steers us, the Oceans and Planet towards a healthier future for generations to come.
The marriage of my art works and informative science in 2012 led to the launch of
The Essence of Water – Oceans- Earth and Us exhibition,
It has the aim to inspire people to be the change they wish to see in the world, through the marriage of art works and science /information from Plymouth Marine Laboratory, Save Our Seas Foundation,
and The Essence of Water –Oceans –Earth and Us booklet.
Through the medium of art and science and how we can all empower ourselves with conscious choices that support a healthier future for us, the global ocean and the earth we all call home.
In June 2014 I attended the United Kingdom Ocean Acidification conference at The Royal Society, London, which educated me with a summary of their 5 year Ocean Acidification research programme results and forecasts.
Attending this conference expanded my awareness of the many issues and threats that are affecting the seas, oceans and global oceans such as
1.Rising seawater temperature,
2.Ocean acidification
3.Ocean deoxygenation.
See more information about these 3 topics on my Oceans Under Stress page.
An exhibition that shows the beauty of the water, alongside sharing the awareness on the impact of Ocean Acidification, deoxygenation and rising sea water temperature now and for the future .
Information and conversation as to what we can individually and collectively contemplate and what we can do about it.....
